Just as the sun was setting, I photographed these footprints in the sand with my Pentax 67 camera. I reached up to advance the film for another shot, looked through the viewfinder, and the image was gone; total time elapsed was less than two seconds. This transition from light to shadow had been replaced by complete shadow, and the photogenic quality was gone. I was amazed at how fast good light can disappear. Photo © copyright by Stephen Penland.
