Inscription: Killed in Indian War, 1855

Odd Fellows Cemetery, Olympia, WA

I found a very faded inscription on a stone monument that was very old for this part of the country.  It harkened back to a time that many now consider a sorrowful part of American history, the subjugation of the American Indian and the taking of their land.  These wars officially ended in 1877, some 22 years after this early settler was killed in that conflict.
