The solid stone of this grave marker is slowly eroding away, and has been doing so for over 100 years. It was the lettering on the tombstone and the fallen leaves that made me want to make the photograph. A shallow depth of field further isolated the tombstone from the surrounding, thereby making it even more prominent within the frame. Photo © copyright by Stephen Penland.
