Beauty of the Storm

Prescott, eastern Washington

When I heard the rolling thunder from Walla Walla one summer afternoon, I grabbed my camera and drove north to Prescott and then to Skyrocket Road, one of the few roads in this agricultural area that runs along the top of the ridge.  From this high vantage point, I felt a bit exposed, but the storm and the lightning were moving away to the east.  As the skies began to open up, I was treated to a glorious display of light on the clouds set against the backdrop of the dark storm.  This is one of my first photographs with a new digital camera, the Hasselblad H4D-40, which has an ability to record an extraordinary range of light in a single frame.  It was an extraordinary event, and I was fortunate to have a camera to record the experience.
